Susan M. Regan of Gillette (1958-2014)

Celebration of Life for Susan M. Regan will be at 1 p.m., Saturday January 10, 2015 at Shoshone Mission in Fort Washakie, Wyo. Please bring pictures or mementos to be displayed at the service. Susan M. Regan, age 56, of Gillette, Wyo., passed away on December 30, 2014, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a battle with a long illness.

Susan Michelle (Gavin) Regan was born on May 11, 1958, in Lander, Wyo., to Edward Burton and Virginia Madge Gavin. She attended Lander Valley High School, Central Wyoming College and Black Hills State University where she earned her BSN in Special Education. Her most beloved teaching job was at Wyoming Indian in Ethete, Wyo. She ended her career as a teacher at BOCES in Gillette, Wyo. Susan married Tim Regan in 1976, but the couple later divorced.

Susan was a member of Beta Sigma Phi- Theta Chapter from 1980- 2010, where she held may offices. Her favorite hobby was chasing her grandchildren. She spent her free time sewing, making quilts and reading. She always surrounded herself with family and friends. Susan also loved horses.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Sheleen Jarman and Tanya Regan both of Gillette, Wyo.; brother, Mike Gavin of Casper, Wyo.; sister, Debbie Thomas of Casper, Wyo., and five grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Virginia Gavin and sisters, Janet Stuna and Virginia Lone Bear.

A memorial has been established in Susan’s name. Memorials and Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court Gillette, WY 82716.

ARAPAHOE INDIAN HANGS FOR MURDER

Rawlins, Wyoming, May 14 (1930), Charles Aragon, an Arapahoe Indian was hanged today at the state prison for the murder in 1928 of Jess and Ed Large, as the climax to a feud over the affections of a woman.

Charles Aragon #4048

Charles Aragon arrived at the Wyoming Frontier Prison on December 18, 1928. On his prison uniform he wore the numbers 4048. According to prison records, he was a “half breed Indian” who stood 5 foot 4 and weighed 146 pounds. He was 23 years old. He was convicted in Lander, Wyoming with the sentence of death. He was to be hanged on March 29, 1929.

The local Cheyenne paper reported that on the night of September 6th, at a forty-niner show in Riverton, Charles Aragon shot and killed two Indian half breeds in the middle of the circus. Aragon was a performer in the circus and played the role of the typical “bad Indian” of fiction. In the middle of the show, he calmly walked up to his victims and opened fire. The two victims instantly fell dead and two bystanders were seriously injured. Aragon attempted to escape form the scene but he was caught and taken to jail. The cause of the shooting had to do with an affair between Aragon and one of the victim’s ex wife.

Charles Aragon was hanged on the Julian Gallows at the Wyoming Frontier Prison on May 14, 1930 at 12:27 a.m. He was 25 years old.

Misty Jo Tavegia Collinsworth of Green River (1980-2014)

(Green River, Wyo.) – Misty Collinsworth, 34, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 in Green River, Wyoming. She was born January 17, 1980 in Evanston, WY the daughter of Larry Tavegia and the late Julie Ann Aragon Tavegia.

She was raised in Vernal, Utah, and was a homemaker. She went to sleep and traveled over the rainbow for her next great adventure. She enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, playing in the river and cooking. She also enjoyed taking care of risk youth and being with her daughters and family.

She is survived by daughters; Aspen Kirian and Kahlen Ann Collinsworth, sisters; Christy Ann Reed (Misty’s womb mate), Lacy Lee Tavegia and Tanya Lynn Martin, father; Larry Tavegia, grandmother; Dorothy Aragon, nephews; Jesse and Ethan Rogers and Austin, Christopher and Quinn Macy, niece; Julie Ann Reed and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by mother; Julie Ann Tavegia, grandparents; Pete Aragon and Mark and Marjorie Zupan.

Traditional Indian Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 1st at 10:00 AM at Rocky Mountain Hall with Arlen Shoyo officiating. An evening service and wake will be held Thursday, July 31st at 5:00 PM at the Dorothy Aragon residence, #11311 1/2 HWY 26, Kinnear. Interment will be in the Aragon Family Cemetery in Kinnear.
