FT. WASHAKIE - Traditional services for Walter Hebah Tidzump, 75, will be held at 11 a.m.., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Rocky Mountain Hall with Harrison "Bunny" Shoyo Jr. and Arlen Shoyo Sr. officiating. A traditional wake will take place at 7 p.m., today, Jan. 30, 2008, at Rocky Mountain Hall. A traditional feast and giveaway will follow later at Rocky Mountain Hall. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Bunky, in the Aragon Cemetery in Kinnear. Due to weather conditions and his elder family members, his family has chose to hold all services at Rocky Mountain Hall rather than at the family home in Johnstown Valley.
He died Jan. 27, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 24, 1932, to Bessie Hebah and Dick Luke Tidzump at the family home in Ft. Washakie and was delivered by his grandmother, Annie Washakie Tidzump.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 and was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany, at the Richard Pogue Post #81.
He was a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Doya Clan.
He is survived by his sons, Walter Dick Tidzump and Reed Tidzump both of Johnstown Valley, Marvin Dion Tidzump of Bar Gee and Thad Tidzump of Browning Mont.; daughters, Sandra "Noge" Tidzump, Delane Tidzump and Sheri Tidzump all of Johnstown Valley; brother, Wesley Tidzump of Ft. Washakie; sisters, Delores Lock, Delane Gould and Donna Wesaw all of Ft. Washakie, Norma Medina of Thorton, Colo., Theresa Whiteman and Brenda Oldman both of Boulder Flats; aunts Lizzie Panzetanga, Mildred Weeks, Francine Shoyo, Zethel Hill and Irene Pingree all of Ft. Washakie, Katherine Shakespeare of Ethete and Arnella Oldman of Riverton; uncles, Rusty Timbana of Fort Hall, Idaho, and Verlon Timbana of Boulder Flats; 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was the father to many other children through the Indian adoption way. Upon marrying Bunky he helped her raise her younger brothers and sisters. They survive him.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Flynn Wetchie; parents; brothers, Ivan Tidzump Sr, James Brawley and Gene Tidzump; sisters, Mary Anne Hill, Jenny Armajo and Melinda Tidzump; grandparents, Thad and Annie Tidzump, Dolly Timbana Nagaromie, Wallace Hebah, Jefferson Nagaromie, Ben Timbana, Ethel Tillman and Viola Hill; great-grandparents, Chief Washakie and Crow Woman, John and Maggie Timbana; uncles, Robert Hebah, John Hebah, Joe Tidzump, Bob Yellow Tail, Tom Yellow Tail and John Tidzump; aunts, Marjorie Tillman, Amy Whiteman Runs Him and Myrtle Noseep; adopted son and daughter, Taddy Romero and Rowena Aragon-Hebah.
