Eugene E. “Pete” Meeks passed away July 31st at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City following a illness. He was 62.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, August 6, at Wind River Lutheran Church, 14695 Highway 287 Fort Washakie, Wyoming 82514 at Ft. Washakie. Viewing at the church will be from 9:00 am – 10:00 am
Viewing will begin at 4:00 pm, Thursday, August 5, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm both at family home, 196 Old Wind River Highway. Interment with military honors will be in Sacajawea Cemetery, Ft. Washakie.
Eugene E. Meeks was born April 9, 1948, the son of Alvena Lahoe Meeks and Issac Coando Sr. Growing up he traveled to various places in the western states accompanying his mother. He was baptized in the Christian Faith. They resided in Chandler AZ and he graduated from high school in 1968. Upon graduation he joined the army where he was stationed in Hawaii & Japan, during the Vietnam War. He married his first wife Noriko, while being stationed in Japan. They later divorced.
After being honorable discharged in 1972 from the army and he returned to Chandler AZ. He attended Lamson Business College and received his AA degree. He also received his BA degree in Science at National College of Business in Phoenix AZ.
In 1977, he returned to Ft. Washakie and married Nadine Schoenthal May 24, 1979, together they had three children, Jedadiah, Erica, and Shiloh.
He worked as a manager at Chief Washakie plunge, a janitor at CWC in Riverton, along with a math tutor at Wyoming Indian High School in 1983. He worked for Dynojet, Wind River Environment Quality and Shoshone Utilities. In 1999 he again worked as a tutor for Wyoming Indian High School, which he truly enjoyed helping the kids with math and being there for him. For 27 yrs he was a true Chief fan whether it was listening to them on the radio or attending as many state basketball games as possible.
He enjoyed going to the mountains collecting rocks and finding new walking sticks. He loved fishing and spending time with his six grandchildren. His passion/ talent was Cartooning, carving wood, and drawing. His favorite shows were forensic files, first 48, CSI, and Sopranos. He really enjoyed spending time riding quads and going to the mountains with his family. He enjoyed shooting guns, camping and fishing with his best friend David Murphy. In January he attended his first live Bronco game with David.
He is survived by his wife of 34 yrs, Nadine; Jedadiah and wife Cody Meeks of Riverton, Erica Meeks of Casper, Shiloh Stevens-Plascencia and husband Juan Stevens-Plascencia of Ft. Washakie. Brothers Edmund and wife Kay Meeks of Ft. Washakie, and Richard Coando of Johnstown. Sisters; Lois Robbins of Amity Oregon, Marie Wadda and husband Lyle Wadda of Ft. Washakie, Lora Harris of Ft. Washakie, Melvera Mitchell of Ft. Washakie, and Avis Nash of Casper. Grandchildren Taj Tillman of Casper, Leona Meeks-Lindgren of Big Piney, Nathen Meeks of Riverton, Joaquin Stevens-Plascencia of Ft. Washakie, Nuvia Cuartas of Casper, and Anexi Stevens-Plascencia of Ft. Washakie. Numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers and sister.
The family requests that any donations can be made to” Video’s for Vets”, Please send anything G or PG rated. (Will be collected and sent to both V.A hospitals by family.)
